Responsibilities & Qualifications
The Speech Therapist directs, supervises, evaluates, and provides Speech Therapy services to clients in the home as prescribed by the physician. The Speech Therapist functions under the direction of the Agency Director and will cooperate with the primary care nurse in the coordination of care for the client. Expected qualifications include:
Licensed in the State of North Carolina as a licensed Speech Therapist
Have a master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology with a bachelor’s degree in the field of Speech and Hearing Therapy preferred.
Have at least one year of institutional/home health experience
Have a current CPR certification
Have at least three (3) years of clinical experience
Comprehensive knowledge of the client’s level of function and participation in development of the total client care plan
Identification of client and family need for other home care services and referral for same when needed
Participation in case management conferences
Instruction for client, family and other agency health care personnel in the client’s treatment regime when indicated, including proper and safe use of equipment and assistive devices as applicable
Supervision of therapy assistants, if applicable.
Supervision of In-Home Aides when such personnel are participating in client’s regime
Participates in discharge planning and in-service programs
Prepares clinical and progress notes
Acts as a consultant to other agency personnel
Maintain compliance with all agency policies and procedures
Assessing, recording and reporting the results of the Speech Therapy assessment
Teaching, assigning, delegating to or supervising other personnel in implementing the treatment plan
Providing the maintenance of safe and effective Therapy
Functional Abilities
Visual/ hearing ability sufficient to comprehend written and verbal communication
Ability to verbalize so that the average person can understand
